Flat Island, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland

This is Flat Island, most likely in the 1940s or 1950s, although I can't say for sure since I don't know where the photo came from. I found it online a few months ago.

If anyone can date this photo, or knows who the folks are in the foreground or even whose house is whose in this picture, that information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Having never been there, the only thing I know for certain is that we are looking at St Nicholas Anglican Church on the right! There is also a cemetery in the photo directly in front of the church, one of three cemeteries on Flat Island.

Hi! I just came across your site and I am also researching the Samson's of Flat Island. My family moved up from there to Catalina - Port Union sometime in the 1920's I believe but they had been there for some time.

About the earliest names I have at the moment are Thomas Edward Samson married to Martha Jane Hancock. I have conflicting info on his parents.

I found a lot of other Samson's but I can't quite make the connections. Hopefully your site can help me out and I would be happy to pass along whatever information I might have.

Has anyone done a complete list of graves on Flat Island? I am looking to verify that my husband's great-great grandmother, Emily Anne Knee Davis died and was buried on Flat Island around 1884.
I would even be happy to verify that she and her husband, Robert James Davis and their two children, Annette Sallie and Egbert John were living there between 1880 and 1889. Thanks, drradical@aol.com

Don't know if this blog is still active. I believe my great grandmother was Alice Samson from Flat Island. She was born in 1887, and married Isaac Roach in Traytown in the early 1900's. She died in 1921. Is she related to the Samsons on this blog?
